Lockhart Senior Phase Complex Model

Your child will progress through 3 years of learning in the Senior Phase. SQA National 1 and National 2 qualifications build on and reflect the learning that has taken place during the Broad General Education.

In Lockhart core qualifications and awards that your child will undertake are described below:

Core National Qualifications

A selection of units will be undertaken from the following areas. National 2 units will be offered where appropriate.

Personal Achievement Awards

These are designed to enable your child to develop their confidence, independence and ability to communicate and respond to others in their own way

Choice National Qualifications

As well as core SQA qualifications your child will be encouraged to undertake 2 additional option choices from the following subject areas:

Prior to selecting options, the class teacher will arrange a meeting with you to discuss the options available and what your child’s preferences may be.  Through a Total communication approach, the pupil will then be facilitated to indicate a choice based on their preferred activities.

For example:
At his S3 annual review, it is noted that Jack loves the swimming pool and daily dance sessions. He has also demonstrated active participation in preparing craft items for the school’s 2 annual fayres.

Through Total Communication Jack is facilitated to make a meaningful choice, based on his preferences and the units that he will undertake are as follows:
PE: Taking Part in a Water Based Activity and Practical Craft Skills: Working with materials
